Writing Slow
I have been struggling since the pandemic started to have a regular writing routine. The main reason is because my full time job does not allow me to do the things that I want.
I work an active job that drains me. I won’t be able to come home and put in hours of work on writing because I would be in a terrible mental state.
I have come to the realization that to get any writing done at all I will simply have to be more strict with my time. Here are the ways I am going to start writing more, but slowly, outside of work.
Joining A Writing Group
I joined an online writing group to get the ball rolling. They meet once a week virtually right now.
I was very nervous at first to do this because I thought it would be a group of people working on novels or writing serious work.
It was some fun individuals working on a variety of things and one of those projects was journaling, which leads me to my next point.
Journal Daily
I use this to empty the brain. Whether I am going to have a writing session afterward or not. I want to write more so I simply require that I write my thoughts down. I don’t really have a rule for what to write about or for how long.
The only rule is that I schedule time to journal daily now. Scheduling also happens to be my last point.
Schedule Time
I schedule writing time for my personal projects outside the writing group once a week right now. This means my books and posts I am going to start making for Medium.
The only limit I place is that I schedule it on the weekends when I can fully dive into the blog post or book without interruption.
During the week I only schedule time for writing if it is with the virtual writing group.
It’s less stressful and fully immersive when I do the writing group or just simply put aside an hour or two on the weekends.
Admittedly this makes my writing process slower because it’s only two times a week I am technically sitting down to write but I feel like my words flow easier without the pressure.
